Bookinist is a mobile seating unit designed specifically for reading. Its trolley-based structure allows it to be easily moved and transported to any desired location. It provides the user with a comfortable seating experience, practical organisation and an enjoyable reading environment. Bookinist can hold up to 80 books and also surprises the user with hidden compartments in the armrests. These compartments can store writing tools such as a magnifying glass, bookmark, pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener and small notebook. Whether it’s day or night, the integrated reading lamp illuminates every moment.

Bookinist Seating Unit – Reading Design Combined Idea
Bookinist is a seating unit designed by German designer Nils Holger Moormann that has attracted considerable attention in the design world. Moormann’s approach to furniture design is generally based on “removing the unnecessary and emphasising function”. Bookinist is an excellent example of this philosophy. It is not just a seating unit, but also a mobile library and a personal reading corner.
The starting point for the design was to make books and the act of reading more visible within the home. Moormann aimed to integrate books directly into the seating area by rethinking a classic chair or armchair. This means you don’t have to get up to reach your books; the entire reading experience is centred around a single piece of furniture.
Material and Technical Specifications
Bookinist, beech plywood body (FU) and raw ash arm support details sturdy and long-lasting durable structure possesses . The arm supports inside the section for storing items such as a notebook, pencil, magnifying glass and small items for storage areas are provided. The cushion is made of soft felt fabric and is made of, which also provides comfort during long reading sessions.
The dimensions are approximately 75 cm wide, 91 cm deep and 100 cm high (including the lamp). Weighing approximately 50 kg, the Bookinist is completed with an integrated LED reading lamp (4 W, E14). The lamp base is made of anodised aluminium, while the shade is crafted from chintz fabric.
Additionally, the shelving arrangement on the side surfaces allows for the storage of approximately 80 books. Thus, the furniture serves both as a seating unit and a portable library.
