UAE-based architectural office Roar Studio combined industrial materials such as concrete and stainless steel with decorative terrazzo and cracked ceramics for Drop Coffee located in Dar Al Wasl Mall in Dubai. With the decision to keep the design simple, they focused on the materials used, making the café bar area a light wood and LED attention-grabbing centerpiece. The cafe’s concrete ceiling and concrete-effect walls are complemented by a stone floor that creates a terrazzo effect in gray and white tones.
The main wall is decorated with broken ceramics, creating an abstract pattern similar to the floor. “We used basic white ceramics, which we sourced from a local manufacturer called Rakceramics, and then crushed them on site to create a patterned wall,” they explain.
