Sometimes it is important to stop at the right moment. To discover new paths. At the start of the 80s when Nils Holger Moormann opened his door for a hitchhiker, a door was opened for him in return into a previously unknown world. Young German designers, who designed furniture. And were still looking for support. That sounded crazy. Somehow crazily good. The hitchhiker got out but his enthusiasm lingered for Nils. He quickly ended his tedious law studies. And the fascination and passion of finding new forms and bringing these onto a common path began …

Liesl Shelving System – Lightweight, Modular, Elegant

Designer, Idea and Development Process
The person who designed the Liesl shelving system is Marie Luise Stein. Developed in collaboration with Moormann, this system stands out for its simplicity in production and aesthetic balance. The primary objective during the design process was to create a structure that could be installed without damaging the wall, could be expanded when necessary, and was free of unnecessary components.
The system is designed on the principle that the entire structure becomes stable once the first shelf is mounted. This means that when the top shelf is installed, the lower shelves are mounted by passing them through from below, without the need to drill extra holes. This ensures that there are not too many holes to screw into the wall and no visible connecting parts.
Shelving panels unprocessed aluminium, support bars are stainless steel manufactured. These selected materials allow for natural patina to form gives – scratches that will form on the surface, oxidation marks of the system character are added.

Among metal shelving models, Liesl’s advantage lies in its lightweight design and durability. Its wall-mounted structure saves floor space. For those seeking modular shelving, Liesl can be expanded as needed — new shelves can be easily added to the aluminium bars.
The structure’s fixing point is limited to only a few screws with since; when mounting a wall-mounted bookcase the wall surface requires minimal intervention and and the aesthetic appearance remains unspoiled.
Aesthetics Harmony and Appearance
Liesl’s natural aluminium shelves acquire a light patina over time. This adds a beauty that embodies the character and signs of use of the furniture. Moormann deliberately incorporates this patina as part of the design.
Thanks to its minimalist lines, Liesl blends seamlessly with modern interiors. It creates a balanced contrast with both warm wood tones and contemporary concrete-walled décor.
